Process from Sponsored Work Permit to Skilled Worker 3 Q's

Postby Brenton on Mon Apr 03, 2006 10:10 pm

I am currently working on a work permit through a sponsored job. It was HRDC exempt as the job fell under the Information Technology Workers program in job type 6. Software Products Developer (NOC 9990.6).

I was initially in Canada on a working holiday visa and started to develop some IT systems, which resulted in me receiving the sponsored work.

- I am considering applying for the Skilled Worker Class visa and I was wondering that if I submit my application am I entitled to continue working in my curent job until it is processed?

- Or do I have to apply for another work permit / extension of my current permit under the same ITW scheme?

- Due to the amount of work that I have done it is possible that I might receive a pay rise or promotion. I understand that if this was to happen that I might need to have my visa reclassified and re-apply due to the job change. Is this correct?

An application for a work permit does not automatically allow you to remain in Canada while a PR application is processed. It would be necessary to be granted extension(s) of your temporary resident status to do so.

A change of employment to a different position may require that your submit a new application for a work permit if the responsibilities change. A change of salary alone would not necessarily have this impact.
