PR / Work Permit Questions

Postby kungfu on Sun Sep 10, 2006 5:50 pm

Greetings David / All,

First, thank you for helping me. I have posted here once before and your answer to my question has already helped me along the way greatly. I greatly appriciate your time you invest into these boards. So, let me get to my questions.

I am currently in Alberta on a Working Holiday Visa (Im from the States by the way), working full time. The visa is good for six months. My first question, is there any way I can extend this particular visa?

Next, I wish to apply for PR. My girlfriend and I will be getting married in the next month or so. She had previously sponsored a spouse, but as I understand from the CIC website there is a 3 year wait before you can sponsor someone else. Is this accurate? If so, the 3 year peroid will be up Jan 2007.

She wishes to sponsor me. I will still be on working holiday visa, that doesnt interfer with the process, correct? We will be living in Canada while the sponsorship takes place.

Is there any sort of way for me to continue working while the sponsorship goes through? (since my working holiday visa will only carry me till around Feb 2007) I read on CIC's page it can take about 8-10 months while in canada. I imagine from reading these forums i would have to take the normal routes, such as applying for a work permit, but that would mean id have to leave Canada? So im a little confused about my options if i want to stay IN CANADA and try to work while she sponsors me.

So much to learn :)

Thank you all for your time

Working Holiday Visas are not typically eligible for extension. Such a visa would not adversely effect a PR application.

Under the circumstances described, if you cannot be sponsored at present, you would need to seek a Service Canada opinion (Confirmation) in order to be eligilble to continue working in Canada.

Thank you for the response!

Is it possible then, if I were to get an offer letter and HRSDC Confirmation (from the company I am working for now on the 6 month holiday visa) that I could get a new visa without having to leave Canada? Or will I most definately have to leave Canada after the 6 months are re-enter with the new application for work visa?

Another question: Is there any possible way to get a normal work visa with only an offer letter from my employer and no HRSDC confirmation?

Im looking for any possible way to transition the working holiday visa into a normal work visa with as little delay inbetween as possible.

Again your help is greatly appriciated and I thank you greatly.
