post graduate work permit from port of entry

Postby kiri0082 on Tue Jul 12, 2011 10:59 pm

Hi David,

Would like your advice. I have applied online for the post graduate work permit (on June 16th 2011). My student visa expires on Aug 30th 2011 and i doubt if i will get my work permit by then. Since i will need to travel in early September (and will need my work permit in order to apply for a new temporary resident visa before i leave Canada), would it be possible for me to drive to the border and get the work permit issued from the port of entry? What documentation would they require or will they pull my records from my online application?

I eagerly look forward to your reply as it has severe implications for my future :(

Thanks a ton,
- kiri

Are you passport visa exempt (i.e., based on nationality)? If not, then you cannot process any work permit application at a port of entry.

Hi David,

Thanks for your reply. No I am not passport visa exempt. But if i hold a valid TRV, can i not apply at the port of entry?

Thanks,
- kiri
