permitted activities on a temporary work permit

Postby hasno2 on Tue Jul 26, 2011 9:46 pm

Hello, I am currently working in Quebec on a temporary work permit. According to the permit, I am not allowed to "work" for another organization other than the one my permit is assigned to. I was wondering, though, if I am permitted to volunteer my time for charitable activities? A hospital is holding a fundraising event and I wish to volunteer for it - I am getting no remuneration for it, of course, just doing from the goodness of my heart. I was just wondering because some volunteer activities are actually considered "work." Thank you for helping clarify.

Unpaid work can still qualify for the requirement of a work permit if it competes with Canadians in the marketplace. However, your post suggests that this is not the case.
