Permenent

This coming January I will be going to work in Ottawa on a temporary working visa with my wife. After 3 months I intend to apply for a premamnet visa. Nearly 3 years ago my wife developed breast cancer. She was treated and has been clear since then. I know that to obtain a permanent visa if you have had cancer you have to clear for 5 years. Does this change things as regard myself applying for a permanent visa?

A similar question about medical inadmissibility addresses these issues. In the case of cancer, the longer that an individual has been in remission, the greater the chance of admissibility. However, these situations are assessed on case by case basis.
