I came to Toronto with an open work permit, based on a regular work permit of my husband. We both are from India. I have a Ph.D. degree. I got a job of post-doctoral fellow in Univ of Toronto. At this moment, I want to get a regular work permit so that I have my own dependence about my job. Is it possible to get one ? If so, could you please tell me the possible and quick way to do this ? My husband work permit expires in January, 2008 and my job will start in May, 2007.

You can obtain a new work permit that is based on your own case rather than on your spouse's work permit. You would have to submit an application for a change-of-terms to the CPC in Vegreville, or an application for a new work permit to a visa office abroad.
