One year extension

Postby janrareza on Tue Nov 30, 2010 1:37 am

Hi, my work permit expires January 2011 and I submitted a work permit extension application with LMO/work contract three months ago.I received the new work permit today but it is only valid until Sept 2011 which is the expiry date of my passport. It has a note that says "LMO 7667572 Valid for 1 year, Passport must be renewed for further extension consideration"

I checked the LMO and it says "Foreign worker must apply to CIC for a work permit prior to Feb 10, 2011."

I wanted to know if I should renew my passport right away and send a new work permit extension application before Feb. 10 with the same LMO and pay another 150$ processing fee? Will they renew it to Sept 2012 or just January 2012?

Please advise. Thank you

The expiration date is the date by which the work permit must be initially sought, which you have done. However, getting the passport extended and the request for extension of the work permit done as soon as possible is the best strategy. You will have to pay the $150 fee at such time.
