On a work permit but could be due before PR is approved

Hi David and All,

I am very glad that I've found this website and the discussion forum. Thanks so much for your efforts! I, like many people on this forum, have read through information posted on CIC website but am hoping for a practical guidance. This website fulfills the needs!

Let me get into my situation:
I've been living in Canada for two years as of now - was on a student permit when studying my M.B.A in Vancouver and then am currently on a 'post-graduation' 1-year work permit (which is going to be expired in April 2007). I understand that this type of work permit is vaild only for 1 year and cannot be renewed. I've just submitted a complete PR application (skill worker class) to Buffalo in late August 2006.

What is the best advice you could give to my situation - work permit is due before PR is processed. Can my employer help to obtain a confirmation from the HRSDC and extend my work permit?

In terms of the PR application, how would I know that the Immigration Office in Buffalo has started processing my case?

Your advice is greatly appreciated!!

You will need to seek a new work permit and may be subject to the requirement of a Confirmation. If your present employer is able to satisfy the typical requirements of such an application, then this is a viable approach. There could also be exemptions worth considering, but more details of the case would be required to evaluate that.
