need to travel for work while waiting for renewal

Discussion of issues concerning temporary employment in Canada, or temporary entry for business activities.

need to travel for work while waiting for renewal

Hi,
I'm in a bit of pickle. I sent off my temp. work permit renewal paper work in early december. I understand that if I leave the country while on assumed status I will only be allowed reentry as a visitor (I'm from the UK) and not be able to work. However I need to travel down to the US for work related reasons. Is there anything I can do?

Any advice of suggestions welcome.
Many thanks.

You may be re-admitted as a visitor if returning to Canada following the expiration of your work permit during the period of implied status but you should be aware that there is no guarantee of such. An immigration official at a port of entry would make the determination, partly on the basis of a determination of means of support. You may also be permitted to seek a new work permit at the port of entry assuming that you satisfy all such requirements at that time.
