Nafta Permit with Spouse

Postby stacymyers on Mon Jun 30, 2008 5:10 pm

Hello,

I am a US citizen with a job offer from a Canadian corporation. Based on what I've read, I will qualify for a work permit under Nafta. What provisions, if any, are made for my spouse? He is also a professional but doesn't know whether he will have a job offer in hand at the time we move. We'd like some assurance that he will be eligible for employment when we relocate.

Thank you!

Provisions do exist for issuance of a work permit to certain skilled foreign workers. Certain conditions would have to be met regarding the skill level and duration of your own work permit; if so, then a spouse or partner could potentially obtain an open work permit without a job offer.
