Looking to work/move to Canada to be with boyfriend

Postby Savannahgro on Tue Aug 02, 2011 12:44 am

Hello!

I am an American citizen that has been dating a Canadian for about 3 years now. We have never lived together but cross the border on weekends to be together. He has recently landed a government job and is looking to relocate to Toronto, where I would like to join him.

I work as lower management in retail for a company that is in the process of expanding it's market to Canada. I am currently trying to find out more information about relocating through work. I am pretty sure that I will need to pay for working permits and relocating, though. Also, I do not believe I can apply for skilled worker and I do not have a diploma over high school.

So, my question is, what is the best way for me to go about moving to Ontario, if it is at all possible?

Thank you for any help,
Savannah

If a Canadian division of your employer offers you a position, then two options will exist for seeking a work permit to work in Canada. The first is an intra-company transfer, although the information supplied does not suggest that this is reasonably viable. The other is a Labour Market Opinion and work permit; the Labour Market Opinion will depend on the employer being able to demonstrate that there is no negative labour market impact as a result of your employment as a foreign worker.
