LMO approved - work permit questions

Postby wamba on Fri Sep 30, 2011 8:18 am

Hello,

I am preparing the documents to apply for a work permit (CIC office in Paris). The start date indicated in the job offer letter (written on 8 June 2011) is 1 September 2011, but I received the LMO confirmation on 19 September where the expected start date is N/A. Also, wage conditions in LMO confirmation letter have changed compared to those of the job offer letter. As Spanish citizen, I don’t require to apply for a temporary resident visa.

My questions are:
- Because I am expected to start working as soon as possible, which would be the best path to take? Applying at the port of entry? Submitting my application in person in Paris office?
- Should I ask my employer for another job offer letter that complies with LMO confirmation letter (e.g. dates, new wage)?
- I would be working in Vancouver for 19 months. During this period, I would need to leave Canada several times to attend international conferences/meetings/courses related to my job position, to spend my holidays abroad, etc. I wonder if my work permit would allow me to re-enter Canada or if I should indicate this when applying for my work permit, and if so, how (?).

Thank you beforehand and congratulations for this interesting forum.

On average, processing of a work permit application will progress dramatically more quickly at a port of entry (when that is a viable venue) as opposed to any visa office. The work permit that is granted has no bearing on eligibility to enter/re-enter Canada, which is the domain of the entry visa. As a Spanish citizen, exempt from the requirement of an entry visa, you are allowed to return to the port of entry to seek re-admission at any time.

As far as the content of the case, consistency of materials with the LMO and its requirements would be expected.
