Live in Canada but work for foreign company

Postby tkw on Wed Mar 03, 2010 5:42 pm

Hi, I am currently residing in Canada on Temporary Resident Visa. I do not have a work permit at the moment, however, I am seeking contract work opportunities with a Singapore company while living in Canada for the next 12 months or so, and I will be paid in Singapore. Will this employment arrangement be considered “working in Canada”? Do I need a Canadian work permit, considering that my source of income and employment contract are both outside of Canada?

If the foreign company does not have any Canadian division, then such work would fall under provisions for telecommuting, and would not typically be subject to the requirement for a Canadian work permit.
