Is research assistant valid job for work permit aspplication

Postby sam1214 on Mon Jul 09, 2007 2:05 am

Hi,
I just am about to finish my masters degree from Canada. My study permit is expiring in September.
My professor wants me to work on a project for which he will give me a letter of employment as a research assistant.

Is university research assistant a job on which I can apply for work permit?
Also do I need to get an HRDC approval for this sort of employment?

If I get a work permit, does it assure that I can reenter Canada, as I have to go to USA in October.

I will greatly appreciate if you could answer my question.
Thanks

A research assistant is eligible to seek a work permit. If the offer of employment follows your graduation as a foreign student, the post-graduate work permit may apply. The information provided is not otherwise sufficient to determine if a Confirmation is required.

A work permit does not allow for re-entry to Canada. However, a single entry visitor visa may permit for re-entry from short trips to the USA.
