First time poster here :D

My family and I are relocating to Halifax from the UK in the next few months having fallen in love with the city and province during an extended stay there last year.

My wife has been accepted on a 2 year diploma program in Halifax and as such is in the process of applying for a Study Permit. It's our understanding that this Study Permit will entitle her spouse (me) to an Open Work Permit. I'm a corporate fundraising consultant here in the UK, and am unsure if an Open Work Permit will allow me to continue being self-employed in Nova Scotia, either in this business capacity or any other? I must admit I'd assumed such a permit only entitled the holder to work as an employee and not in a self-employed capacity. Perhaps someone could clarify this for me please.

Secondly, can anyone tell me if we need to apply for the Open Work Permit at the same time as my wife's Study Permit, and if so is there a specific form or procedure to follow? We're a little confused as to whether it's the standard Work Permit form or if there's a specific form for this. Hopefully you might be able to shed some light on this for us.

And last but not least; my wife's diploma course doesn't start until September, and we're unclear when an Open Work Permit would entitle me to actually commence work, should I be fortunate enough to be granted one. I'm guessing I won't be able to start until September, but again perhaps someone could very kindly clarify this for us.
