HRSDC confirmation?

Postby garypt on Thu Oct 06, 2011 10:18 am

Hi I am currently in Canada under a post graduate work permit. It is expiring soon. I have just been offered a full time position as a php/web programmer. I need to send a proposal to extend my work permit. Would I need HRSDC confirmation?

Thanks in advance

Likely, yes, but the information provided here is not sufficient to accurately determine the need for a Labour Market Opinion Approval.

BC is the only province that maintains the Facilitated Processing of IT Workers program, but eligibility for this is not clear (based on either location or qualifications). A LMO would generally be needed for a software developer in other provinces (a CAQ as well in Quebec). Depending on nationality and the exact scope of the role, there may also be other provisions that could be examined as alternatives (e.g., NAFTA, GATS).
