How to change my work permit

Postby noeliaguzman on Wed Nov 04, 2009 12:50 am

Hello,

I arrived in Canada two months ago and I am working for the Board of Education as a teacher. In my work permit it says that I am "not authorized to work in any occupation other than stated" or "for any employer other than stated" or "in any location other than stated". Is there any possibility to change those conditions from my work permit and try to change my job? If I quit my current job, will I have to leave the country?
Thanks a lot.

Yes, you can apply for an inland change of terms or apply for a new work permit at a visa office abroad (or possibly a port of entry as well depending on nationality). If the present employment terminates early, you are permitted to remain in Canada until the currently stated expiration date, but with the conditions stated on your work permit.
