Getting PR

Postby bindra on Sun Apr 02, 2006 2:24 pm

Hii...
This is the first time im visiting ur site...its a great site..I have some questions that are need to be answered..
curently im enrolled in 3yr mechanical enginnering diploma course..im on study permit..im doing my first co-op out of 3 co-op..each co-op is of 4 months..so in total ill be having a one yr work experiance....the work permit that i got on the basis of this co-op is valid until 30th dec 2007 n my study permit is going to expire on 31 jan 2008..Now my question is:

1) Can i use that work permit for other jobs that are not considered as a co-op (like a part time while im studying)
2) Can i apply for PR..if i can what will be the good time?
3) Can i apply for my PR in Canada?
4) If i apply at the end of my course than how am i going to stay in Canada as my study permit is only valid until 31 Jan 2008(thats the end date of my course)?
5) Is there any way to extend my stay after 31st Jan 2008 while my PR is in process or i have to leave Canada evan if my application is in process?

i hope you will be able too answer all of my questions

thank you

A work permit issued for employment associated with an academic program would be restricted to just that. It cannot be treated as an open work permit.

Your eligibility for a PR application at this time would depend on your eligibility according to the current Regulations. You may apply for PR status if you are satisfied that you are eligible, but such a case would presently need to be submitted outside of Canada. Any intent to remain in Canada for the duration of the processing of a PR application would have to be supported by CIC approval of an application for extension of your temporary resident status. Following the completion of your studies in Canada, the post-graduation provisions should allow you to remain for up to 2 additional years.
