From holiday work permit to regular work permit

Postby proustinette on Sun Jun 17, 2007 12:01 pm

Hello everyone,
My work and holiday permit expires on July 7th 2007. My employeur was saying that we didn't need a LMO for me to get a new job permit. So I sent the extention application and the work permit application with only the job offer of my employeur. That has been returned, and now it is too late for me to get the LMO (what takes longer now). I'm going to be "illegal" and I have 90 days to recover a status.
But inbetween, I had to quit my job because of payment issues and bad treatment. That means that I'm now looking for another job with only 3 weeks of valid permit.
What can I do to be able to stay in Canada after my visa expires ? What do I need ? Those 90 days are a very short delay and I'm very scared.
Please help me.

We went through the same thing as far as being on a holiday work permit and having to get a work permit.

There are some but very few jobs that are exempt from LMO, most jobs you need to get a LMO. I started with an employer with only a couple of months left on my visa, we had to apply for a LMO and were successful. Study the LMO and try to find an employer that values and needs you enough to go through the paperwork. Explain the process to them so its not such a big scary unknown, and pain in the butt to them.

If you have some skills and experience in an area where there is a labour market shortage that is your best bet. If you are willing to move to a remote area, of course there is often skilled labour shortages there.

Hope that helps a little
