Friend wants to Invest in Canada-Work Permit Issue

Postby Caroline on Thu Feb 04, 2010 4:17 pm

A friend is an Indian national and he also a holder of Singaporean PR and has recently established a business in Toronto, Canada. He is currently on a visit visa, however will obtain a Business Visa eventually.
On his new venture/business in Canada, he is in the process of employing approximately 40-45 people in Canada (Canadian Citizens and Permanent Residents). He also has a well-established business in India, Malaysia, Singapore and now in Canada. Since, he has a set-up/business in India, therefore he wants his current team members (5/7 employees) from India to visit Canada to set-up the Software and Computer system and also to train his new employees in Canada. These employees will be visiting Canada for only 1 to 1.5 months and will be paid their usual salaries in India.
My questions are:
- If we need to send you Work Permit Applications or Temporary Resident Applications for these employees from India?
- It appears to me that they would fall under the category R186 (work without a work permit) LMO exempt? Will it be Business Visitors or C-12 Intra-company transferee?
- What type of fee will it be? Work Permit Fee or Visitor Fee?
- Is there a group fee for Work Permit for more than 2/3 applicants?
- What is the documents check list to include with the application?
I would really appreciate your response on the above questions.

From the information supplied, the Indian employees will need to seek out work permits; the intra-company transfer provisions are a possibility, but the details of their cases would have to be evaluated to determine the most suitable approach. Fees for work permits are CAD$150 per individual; in this type of case no group fee exists.
