Few questions about work permit

Postby bookashka on Mon Apr 04, 2011 8:42 am

I have some questions, could you please help me?

The situation is: My husband has a job by contract here. His work permit is close (I as spouse got open). Both are valid till fall 2012.
Recently company's administration announced staff reduction. Right now my husband is in safe. But direction is saying that in few month they might shut down the whole company.
The questions are:
1) How long my husband can stay legally in Canada after he is made redundant? In other words how much time he has to find another job offer, get LMO and WP?
2) Can we both stay in the country legally If I find a job?
3) What do you think about chance for my husband to be fired? Is it easy for company to fire a worker which has been invited from different country and has a long term contract with this company?

You are permitted to remain in Canada for the duration of the validity of the current work permits. If either of you finds a new job and secures a work permit, the other would have a good likelihood of being allowed to remain as a visitor, or potentially as a worker depending on the skill classification of the principal candidate's job.
