Extending my Work Permit

Postby psmith on Sun Aug 14, 2005 3:33 pm

I am an Australian who originally came to Canada with a 1yr Work Permit to work in the Rental Shop of ski resort.

I have since been offered a job in the as a Chef by another company.

This company advertised locally for a considerable amount of time, and were unable to find an appropriate Canadian worker to fill the position.

My Work Permit expires in a couple of months time, however this company wants me for at least the next six months.

I would like to extend my permit to work in this position.

1) What are the steps that I (and my employer) would need to take in order for this to happen?

2) Is it likely that I would be successful with my application because of the nature of the position? (eg. maybe not considered a highly skilled position)

3) Would the fact that the employer advertised unsuccessfully for a long time be an advantage for me?

Thankyou for your help!

An application for HRSDC Confirmation (Labour Market Opinion) will be required before being eligible to apply for a Canadian work permit for this new position.

If the Canadian company can demonstrate that no Canadian was able to fill their requirements, and that the offer is otherwise consistent with the local labour market conditions, then there is a reasonable chance of approval. Demonstration of an advertising effort is mandatory in such case.
