Extend work permit - open spouse permit?

Postby bestsurfiechick on Tue Feb 13, 2007 6:55 pm

Hi there, we are an Aussie couple that have been working in Canada for a few years, are visas currently expire in Aug 07.

To extend the visas what is the process? Do we need to go through HRSDC again?

I read somewhere that if one spouse has a work permit, then the accompanying spouse can get an open work permit. Can someone point me to more information on this and how do we apply for it?

Currently we both have permits that are limited to our employers.

Thanks
Jess

The requirements of the process of extension or re-application will depend on a combination of your qualifications and the details of the position that you are pursuing. If you originally required Confirmation, then the likelihood is that it will be required at this time as well.

The provisions governing open work permits for spouses are based on the NOC classification of the first spouse's occupation. Such cases can be processed simultaneous or subsequent to that first spouse's application.
