Delays in PR Applications after Meds

Postby simon_healy on Thu Jan 12, 2006 4:57 pm

Has anyone experienced delays with thier applications after completing their medicals?

Our application is in the London CHC if this makes any difference.

We completed our Meds on Oct. 6th 05 sent our AI about 5 weeks later and haven't heard a thing since. Has now gone over the 3 month mark since our meds were completed and am begining to get anxious.

Any info would be welcomed;

I myself am moving to Toronto (from Carlow) in 2 weeks times, myself and my wife completed our medicals last November in Dublin, the visas finally came through last week :D The process is pretty drawn out, we originally applied back in May '05, it took nearly 5 months for things to get going properly. How did things work out for you in the end?

I'd be interested to meet up with other Irish people in the Toronto area, its a long way from Carlow town!

Hi John;

We still have not received our PPR request but are hopefully heading to Edmonton. We have a house bought out there and are just waiting for our PPR.
Can you let me know a few things about your application.
1. You submitted your app in May 05, was this in the skilled worker catagory or another type?
2. Could you tell me what your profession is? I am in IT and the Missus is in Inventory planning and stock control.
If you have any info that might help ease our wait, that would be great.

Simon.

Hey Simon

Yes, the submission was in the skilled worker category - I'm an IT Manager.
I'm surprised that your app is taking so long to process, to think that I was complaining about the length of time mine took to come through!
Are you sure that you've completed all documents correctly? The wifes friend and husband thought everything was OK but only learned recently that there was an anomily in their original application. Lets hope you're not in the same boat.....

Hi John;

Have sent a fax to them this morning asking what the hold up is, giving details of when meds and AI were submitted. We have a copy of all documents and forms sent to CHC which we have had looked over by an immigration lawyer in Toronto. There doesn't seem to be any prob with that side of things. We followed the checklist that was on the CIC site meticulously, dotted every T and crossed every I.

Checked with the Doc in Dublin about the meds and he said everything was fine. The only thing that was needed to be updated was our childrens passports as they had less than a year on them. The updates have been sent to CHC over a month ago.

All other bank statements, Resumes, Police clearances etc... were the standard request that others have received, so this should not cause a delay either. I think that they are procesing our App now as e-CAS has changed in the last week to "Meds Received" although they told this last december.

Only thing left to do is keep a positive spin on things otherwise we would end up going mad!

Exactly, I'm sure it will all come together some time soon.

As it happens, my new job will bring me up to Alberta a couple of times a year, I'll be in Edmonton in July for 2 weeks. If you're there at that stage, it would be great to meet up for a pint or two, I hear O'Byrne's Irish Pub is great for a bit of craic. I have a friend in Calgary that I'll be meeting up with at some stage, he's a Mullingar lad, those Westmeath men are mental for a few pints!

Anyway, I'm off on Saturday week (please god), Canada here I come!

Hope to speak to you soon Simon, let me know how things work out.

John

Hi John;

You wouldn't believe it, we got our PPR today!! Sending passports tomorrow morning by courier to CHC! Having a few pints tonite and a bottle of champers which has been chilled for 3 months!

Should be heading out around the first week of April so we should be there for July!! Bring your Mullingar friend with you as we are from Ballivor about 16 miles from Mullingar. There's a few good places in Edmonton for a pint, we were there last year for Klondyke days - great craic! :D

Still can't believe it! have to go get a drink. Speak to you soon about your move and how it went;

Brilliant news Simon, at least that worry is out of the way :) I know Ballivor well, the wife used to work up in NEC a few years back, pity the place has closed down recently though.

I believe Edmonton is a really nice place to live, its not a huge city by Canadian standards, that said, it would appear to have a lot to offer. Have you secured work there or are you planning to work outside the city? My Mullingar mate tells me that there are a load of decent watering holes around the place and the price of a pint is a lot more favourable to what we're used to. From what I gather, there are plenty of nice restuarents around the city, the culchie mate (what am I saying, I'm a culchie myself, just not as much as your man from Mullingar ;) ) raves about a place called Smokey Joes, apparently they do an Irish breakfast of sorts thats known far and wide.

Anyway, enjoy the celebrations, you've earned it!

John

Hi John;

Thanks! Both me and the missus worked in NEC too! Small world! Both of us worked between 1995 to 1998. When did your missus work there? I was in the BEL and Joyce was in the SIMM area. Your missus would definitly know one of the missus' clan PJ McKeown, he was a shift supervisor on shift B.

Anyway we are booking flights today to go around the 8th of April, so we will have to try Smokey Joes if we start getting homesick for a good Irish Fry!

Talk to you soon
Regards
Simon

Thats mad, its a small workld alright! The wife (Oonagh) worked in the SIMM department, she was there for a year from 94-95. Apparently, it was my fault that she had to leave (I got her pregnant, can you say 'shotgun wedding? ;)), I was just happy to know that I was OK in the virility department if you catch my drift ;) I asked ber about PJ Mc Keown, she remembers him alright, they had a run in over timekeeping and didn't get on too well after that, I don't think she bears him any grudge these days though. She did mention one unsavory incident but I'd rather not mention it on a public forum.

Anyway, I just noticed from your earlier post that you work in IT yourself, what area do you specialise in? I'll be taking up a Technical Services manager position in a couple of weeks (once I get settled), I've been working in server solutions with HP (Leixlip)for the past couple of years, I'll be working out of their offices in Toronto with a view to regular travel to the other bases in Mississauga, Edmonton and Calgary.

Regards

John

Hi John;

PJ was a T****r! I will check with the missus to see if she remembers Oonagh.
Anyway, the It area that I specialize in is PBX, Desktop and Network Support. I look after our call centre PBX and Symposium systems, EPO AV system for Europe as well as AD Admin. Also desktop support.

If you are in HP you probably know all the old people from NEC. Paul Beggy was a manager in there back in the 90's before the went to HP along with a good few others.

Regards;
