Common Law and Work permit

Postby geran321414 on Sun May 15, 2011 1:15 pm

Thank you so much for providing information on this website.

My case is that I am on a post graduate work permit and it will be expired on July 18, 2011. I have been work at Scotiabank for the last 9 months. However, they refused to sign the Labor Market Opinion (LMO) to help me extend my work permit.

My boyfriend is Canadian and he is willing to help me apply for common law PR immigration. We have been living together over 1 year now and we bought a house together.

My question will be by submitting my application of my work permit extension with my common law PR application, will it help me to extend my post graduate work permit( or get a new open work permit), even thought I don't have a LMO.

Thank you so much for your help!

A common-law sponsorship application is not a basis for extension of a work permit. An inland application can lead to an open work permit following approval in principle, but this is not likely to occur by July.
