changing employers-unique situation

Greetings folks. Forgive my long winded thread here, but I feel I need to catch you up to date in order to answer my question.
I arrived in Canada from the U.S. about 5 years ago on a TRP. After spending a couple of years here with my Canadian spouse I obtained work with a Canadian subsidiary of a prior U.S. employer that I had. My visa was issued under the NAFTA guidelines.
Ater working for the company for 3 years, I was laid off again as our work is seasonal. This time I was laid off in August instead of closer to the end of the year due to a shortage of work. So I stopped off at a competitor to see if they'd be interested in my skills. They are. We applied through HRSDC and we were denied. I still don't have a full reason and dealing with HRSDC seems impossible. One person tells the employer that they will contact me if need arises, and the next person tells me that they will contact the employer.
We have tried refiling under HRSDC guidelines to no avail.
So last week, I submitted a new application for a work permit with the new employer to the CPC in Vegreville.
My wife and I are very nervous knowing how important this is for us.
What are the chances that I will receive a new work permit for the new company that desires me joining their establishment?

To sum up........I've been in Canada over 5 years
Married 4 years to a Canadian
Worked for a Canadian company that let me go once they found out I had contacted the competition.
Still have a valid work permit.

We have not applied for PR, and realize this is an important step.

Thank you

There is no simple answer to your question. If the CPC determines that a Confirmation is required to grant a work permit for the new position, and Confirmation was refused, then the work permit will be refused as well. If you are eligible for an exemption from Confirmation, then the case may have a chance.

Thank you David for your reply.
We currently have applications pending with Immigration as well as HRSDC has decided to give my future employer another chance. So we are quite optimistic. I'll follow-up when I know more.
