Hi,
I am currelty on a spousal visa with my long term girlfriend as she is sponsored by her company. I am also now in full time employment with a professional services firm in Toronto and am wondering if i can change my visa so that i can continue at my job, but that my visa is not linked to hers as my common law wife. I am concerned that if we end the relationship i will no longer class as a common law spouse and I will have to leave my job. what would you advise?

many thanks!

You may always seek to change the terms of your present work permit. In order to obtain a new work permit which is not issued in the spousal category, however, you would have to fulfill the standard requirements. In this case, it is likely that a Service Canada Confirmation would have to be obtained first.
