Change of Employer under NAFTA

Change of Employer under NAFTA

Postby GAMT on Sat Nov 21, 2009 12:30 am

Hi,

I am US Citizen working in Canada as an engineer since May 2008 with a work permit that was renewed for three years past September but unfortunately I am expecting to be laid-off soon. I may find a job in a different company. Provided that engineering does not require LMO and but the probable new employer and I have the following questions:

(1) To change of employer on my work permit should I go to any port of entry (let's say Buffalo) with the employer's formal job offer, my passport and university information? Same process as when my first work was issued at the airport?

I would appreciate if you can help with this issue and let me know if there is anything else that I should do.

Thank you very much,
GAMT

An application for a new work permit can be processed inland (i.e., Vegreville; slowest), at a visa office abroad, or at a port of entry (fastest). The exact documentation needed would require a closer evaluation of the case.
