Best way to get back to Canada?

Postby Lou on Fri Oct 28, 2005 5:14 pm

Hey there,

I have a few questions that I hope you dont mind helping me with?

I have only in the last few days returned to the UK from being on a one years working holiday visa.
I was told they do not extend these visas so I decided to come home in the hope of returning on another work visa.

My partner at the time of living in Canada is common law, we are not married but she was born in Canada and lives there currently.

My previous employer before I left Canada were looking into applying for a foreign worker visa which I was told by the Canadian human resources takes 6-8 weeks to get a response so I was told that I had to return to the UK.

I was an assistant retail sales manager for the company I was working for and they find it very hard to find sales people to either stick it out or who are actually any good because it is a very particular type of detailed sales. Hence why they wanted me to stay with them.

My partners father also has offered me a job that I was interested in taking up as well as it is in Toronto.

I was looking for the forms for foreign worker application on the website to send to the companies to ensure they still have them but I cannot currently find what I am looking for!

The other option i am thinking of taking is applying to do a university course in Toronto and going on a student Visa. The only thing I am worried about is that it limits my time to work and I really need to the money to afford lifes little essentials like food and expensive rent and utilities, which I am unsure that I could do whilst studying.
My parents understand how much i want to go back to Canada and if need be they said they will fund me furthering my education if it is a means of going back to Canada.

I am currently 24 years old and looking to get back asap. Is it possible to return on a holiday visa while one of my applications to the above choices are in process and which do you feel is the best way for me to go about getting back to Canada.

Many thanks for your time in reading this.

Sincerely

Lucien

You will need to inquire with your local Canadian Consular office about your eligibility for an additional work permit under a youth program. As a general rule, applicants are limited to one such visa.

Either of the offers of employment that you described with require that the Canadian employer obtain a Labour Market Opinion (Confirmation) from Human Resources and Skills Development Canada (now Services Canada). Such an application would require that they demonstrate that there is no negative labour market impact as a result of your employment in Canada. For the types of positions that you are describing, the HRSDC process would typically be quite difficult as their tendency would be to state that Canadians are available.

If you obtain admission to Canada as a foreign student, you would be permitted to work on campus without a separate work permit.

I would only be allowed to work 'ON CAMPUS'?

So not in regular jobs etc?

The campus maybe small, therefore people would take all the jobs and I wouldnt be staying on site either.

So stringent!

As a foreign student and without a work permit, you would be limited to on-campus positions.
