Applying for New Work Permit Inside Canada

Postby uole2025 on Wed May 18, 2011 10:40 am

Hi! I am presently working at company "A" and my work permit was expired last Feb. 2011 but before its expiration, the extension of my work permit was applied. Todate, my work permit extension still on process considering the 4-5 months processing time.

Very recently, Company "B" offered me a job and secured a positive LMO.

The question is: Can i apply for a new work permit for company "B" even if I am not in possession of the work permit extension for company "A"? Because I understand I must have a legal status before applying for new employer work permit, is that right?

I am worried that the new employer might not consider me anymore because I can't submit the application for new work permit yet even the LMO is already available.

Thank you and anticipating your advice on this matter.

You may apply for an inland change-of-terms for a work permit for the new employer or for a new work permit via a venue outside of Canada (e.g., a visa office or - depending on nationality - a port of entry).

A search for "apply for work permit for new employer" yielded many results addressing this issue.
