Apply at the border --- what to prepare?

Postby glancing on Thu Dec 21, 2006 12:06 pm

Hi,

I have been linving in USA for 5 years and now I got a job in Canada. I'm a citizen of South Korea.

After mailing my application to Buffalo last month, I haven't yet received the letter. (I made a mistake sending more money than they want. They returned the check. I sent a new check last week. But so far no reply yet.)
Anyway, I have to move next week because my US visa will expire if I quit the job in USA.
And, I know that I can apply at the border for the work permit. (My job does not require
HSDRC confirmation --- postdoc position).

What should I bring to the border? (I am moving by car.)

Do I need to pay the same fee (US$135) as well? Is the credit card ok?
Do I need to prepare 2 photos of each person?

Citizens of South Korea can apply for a work permit at a Canadian port of entry. You would require all supporting documentation for the case and the applicable fees. Most POEs do accept credit cards, but Canadian cash (CAD$150) is the safest approach. Photographs are not required in such cases.

Job permit issue

Postby alan28 on Sat Jan 06, 2007 8:12 am

I have to ask you this, I been in canada with friends for 9 months last year. CIC sent to the house a permit to leave canada, so i left canada. On february 2006, 1 month after that, itried to re enter canada because of my girlfriend but was refused to entry on the airport, Now is about 1 year after that, i have a question for you. If i have a company trasferee job offer the comapny that iI`m working with now, and they have offices in Canada, they are transfering me to Canada. At this point, do you think it will be a problem trying to get the NAFTA Job permit at the port of entry. Im mexican by the way.

Thanks for your lovely attention,

regards

The intra-company provisions apply to specific categories of employees. The nature of your present position, and the prospective position in Canada would determine your eligibility. Your prior refusals for visitor admission could be a factor if you are eligible, however, as a foreign worker must also be considered admissible to Canada as a visitor.

Ok I will consider your opinion in this case. I am also considerating to apply for the residence here in Mexico. I have all the paperwork regarding the issues and that I also applied for restoration of my status in Canada, but I left before it came in. So Do you think that they still consider my case for residence?
This wasn`t a deportation this was just a permision to leave Canada.

Thanks for your help
