Apply at Border - LMO Exempt

Postby becgowen on Wed May 11, 2011 7:17 pm

Hi,

I am an Australian post-graduate student hoping to spend some time at the University of Guelph, Ontario. I have a letter of offer from the UoG which says that the position is LMO exempt. My question is, do I need a letter from the HSDC to confirm this? Also, I'm hoping I can apply at the border but a bit nervous. I have letters from my university here confirming my income, my leave and that I will be expected back here in January so hoping this will be enough. Do you know what the process is to apply at the border? Should I fill out the Application for Permit made outside Canada and take this with me?

Thanks for your help.

HRSDC will not render a decision on eligibility for exemption from a Labour Market Opinion; only CIC can do so, either at a visa office or (in some cases) a port of entry. Exact requirements depend on the case, but should mirror closely the documentation submitted to obtain the exemption opinion letter.

Thanks David!

Does this mean I still pay the $100 at the POE?

Work permit processing fees are $150, and are paid at the port of entry for cases processed there.
