Hi Chris,

I'm probably not the best qualified to answer your question, but as nobody else has replied I'll give it a go :P I can only speak from my experience of Nova Scotia, so that may well be different from Alberta, but overall I would suggest the cost of living is lower than the UK... but not by the margin many people may think. We found real estate to be considerably cheaper in Nova Scotia, although I think you will find Alberta real estate to be rather more expensive, and a little more in line with the UK market. Food, particularly bread and cheese seems to be more expensive, at least in Nova Scotia; and utilities are probably somewhat cheaper than in the UK. As I say, I think when you look at everything as a whole, you'll find Canada to be cheaper on some fronts, but dearer on others. It's definitely not the big difference from the UK that we initially envisaged.
