any type of extension to remain in Canada

Discussion of issues concerning temporary employment in Canada, or temporary entry for business activities.

any type of extension to remain in Canada

Postby dish911 on Tue Oct 18, 2005 9:22 pm

Hi,
I am currently on a one-year post graduation work permit. I live in Toronto therefore I only qualify for one year. Very recently I applied for the permanent residency status under 'federal skilled worker' category through Buffalo.

My work permit expires on May 21st 2006. What possibilities do I have, to remain in Canada until my permanent residency application is completely processed?

I do know that I can extend my work permit through a ‘HRDC confirmation’. From what I hear that’s hard to get so is there any other way to get around this problem.

Any help is greatly appreciated.
Thank you.

The only other means of extension of your temporary status in Canada would be to request a change of terms. In such an application, you could request a new study permit on the basis of an admission to another Canadian academic institution, or you could request that you be allowed to remain in Canada as a visitor (unable to work or study).

Bear in mind that a pending permanent resident application is not, in itself, grounds for extension of status in Canada.
