Advice Needed

Postby tarak on Fri Mar 02, 2007 12:32 am

i have what may be a unique situation (maybe not) please let me know your opinion on what course of action could be followed. Thanks.

i am a us citizen and my wife is an indian citizen. she is studying in canada on a study visa and i am planning on temporarily (6 - 9 months) moving to canada to set up a distribution facility for my family business. i have two basic questions:

1. can i apply for a work permit at the border (we are in the process of forming a canadian company) or should i enter under the NAFTA business visitor category

2. can i or should i have my wife's status changed to a dependent if i do apply for a work permit

we do not intend to settle in canada and will be going to the us once i am done with my work and she is done with her course.

I appreciate your input/comments.

If your wife is a foreign student in Canada (i.e., possesses a valid study permit), then you may be eligible for an open work permit. Such an application can be processed at a port of entry for a US citizen.
