Accepting Permanent Job while on Work Permit

Postby pranjal_kumar on Fri Oct 14, 2005 5:53 am

Hi,

I am on valid work permit (Software Products Developer category). Right now, my work permit has condition that I can work for my current employer (XYZ Inc.) and current location(Calgary). I need clarifications on the following:

1. Another employer is interested in hiring me. Can I accept the permanent position ? What should I mention on my Change of Conditions form for the end of work permit date ?

2. How much tentative time is required for changing the condition in Alberta case processing center (considering that my job category does not need HRDC approval) ?

Thanks in advance.

You cannot begin work for a new employer under your present temporary work permit. You would be required to obtain a new permit prior to being able to do so. You may do so under the provisions of a Change of Terms (inland at Vegreville, Alberta: 45-60 days), or by applying for a new work permit at a visa office outside of Canada (1 day to 4 weeks depending on mode and venue of submission). The usual allowance for this type of permit is a period of one year.
