About PR

Postby rajat on Tue Jan 10, 2006 5:21 am

Hi:

Q1> I've completed 12 yrs education + 4 years of Bachelors Degree. Now if I take up some 1 yr course in Canada and then I apply for a PR. How much points will I get in the education level of the PR application out of 25.

Q2> I get a job after the course and then I apply for a PR. Will I get the points under the arranged employment factor.

Q3> How long does it take for processing of a PR application with respect to the above details.

Q4> Is it necessary to have EXACTLY 1 year work-ex or a little up down is accepted (like 10 months + )

Thanks.

In response to your questions:

1. That would depend on the nature of the course you take. If the degree that you receive is a Master's, then you can earn as many as 25 points in total.

2. Yes, you should be able to earn those points assuming that you obtain a work permit that is exempt from HRDC validation, under international agreement, or significant benefit to Canada.

3. That would depend on numerous factors, but assuming that you are applying in the USA, a 12-16 month estimate is reasonable.

4. If you do not have at least 12 months of experience, you risk being refused automatically.

Thank you David.
Your suggestions are very helpful.
I have just one more question for you:

What if I have 1 year of work-ex (which makes my total points approx 71)and then I apply for a student visa and instead of applying for a PR from my native country I apply in canada while studying (1 year of education).

1> Will it help in getting PR quickly as compared to applying from my homeland.

2> After the course completes I can apply for a work permit provided I have a job. Lets suppose its a 1 yr permit. Then can I get the PR before my work permit expires. It would already be approx 2 years ( 1 year of study + 1 year of work)

Last: Do I need to show any certificates for French knowledge if I want to secure 8 points in language part of PR.

Thanks.

If you apply for PR while you are a foreign student in Canada, you may choose to use the visa offices in the USA. Applications submitted in the USA are presently faster than those in the majority of countries worldwide.

If you claim language abilities in French, then you should certainly expect to be required to submit objective evidence (i.e., TEF scores) of those abilities.
