90 days countdown for a post-graduate work permit

Postby Zetto on Wed Feb 21, 2007 5:50 am

Hi,
I'm new to this forum.
Here is my situation:
I'm an international student in Quebec, I've just finished my masters in Oct 2006, and received a confirmation letter from school by the end of Nov 2006.
I still haven't found a job :( and the 90 days are almost over.
However, I'll receive soon an updated mark statement that mentions 'diplome obtenu' instead of 'diplome recommandé' on the one I have now.
My student permit is valid till 2008 (no problem)

My question is:
Can I count the 90 days from the final mark statement issue date?
Is the Vegreville center going to insist to have the first letter if I apply for a post-graduate work permit?

By the way, I applied for PR 18 months ago, received the Québec confirmation (CSQ) and I'm still waiting for the medical instructions.
I'm in Canada for 7 years now and got my BA from the same school.
I'm Tunisian, english is my 4th language, I'm sorry if my english quality is not that good :)

Has nothing to do with final mark date. It is the date stamped on your graduation certificate.

Thank you for you answer :)
Do you mean by 'graduation certificate', the confirmation letter or the degree?

I spoke to the international students assistant in our school and she told me there is often an issue about when to start the countdown exactly.
According to her, CIC agents are not to strict about it if it's not too far from 90 days and that they may consider the end of semester (=end of december 2006) as a starting day, that would give me an extra mounth.
Let's hope :)

Hey

when i graduated, i got two forms - graduation confirmation and b.sc. degree. date written were both the same. and i don't know how that works in your school.

and your student assistant is right in that canadian immigration regulation is not very well-structured, nor rigid. they are not gonna kick u out b'coz of just few days. it's all case by case.

good luck man, i think this postgrad workpermit is really great; otherwise you need to seek for LMO and with LMO, i don't think anyone can land a job unless the employer is extremely patient. and that's not gonna happen in my field (IT, computer system).

Thanks a lot for your help,
in my school, the date on the degree is feb. 1st 2007, and the on confirmation letter it's end of Nov. 2006

It's true that post-graduate permit is an eccellent option, some (many) employers don't know about it and think that any thing other than PR or Canadian citizen is too much trouble... I've heard that from many sources.
Good luck for the job.
Thanks again
