30y/o New Zealander wanting Temp Visa after WHV

Postby shaker on Thu Dec 07, 2006 10:20 pm

Hi,

Having trouble finding definite answers to these Qs.

I'm currently living in Montreal working in a bar on a Working Holiday Visa. I'd like to stay on after my Visa expires in March, but only for 6 months or so. My boss has talked to me about the possibility of staying so I know that I have a job if I can get a visa.

My questions are:

Am I eligible for a temporary work visa? What are the requirements that I must satisfy?

What is the cost involved in applying for/ obtaining this visa?

Is it easy/ quick to get?

How do I go about applying?

Sorry if something similar has been posted before, but I've done so much searching that I really just need someone to give me the answers now as I have nothing concrete!

Many thanks in advance for the advice.

You would require a Service Canada Confirmation to be eligible for a work permit in such a case. Please refer to the work visa FAQ for more information.

Thanks for the response David.

I have looked this over and have some additional questions.

I'm still unsure as to the cost involved in all of this?? Any ideas?

I'm working in Canada currently (WHV). Does this pose a problem for visa processing?

The job offer I have is nothing 'exceptional'. I'm not a doctor or anything, I work in a bar. I have very high sales (hence my boss wants to keep me) and also have managerial responsibilities. Is there any chance that a temp visa would be granted for such a position or would we be wasting our time?

The timeframes stated are a little vague. 45-60 days for offer confirmation and a matter of hours to 8 weeks for getting the permit. Do you know what the average processing time from submitting the offer to actually getting the visa is currently??

The last question I have is what sort of timeframe the visa allows? Is it a one-year minimum or could I apply for a 6 month visa? Would I be more likely to be granted a 6 month visa given the nature of the position?

Thank you for your assistance. It is very much appreciated.
